10 First Date Tips for the Modern Gentleman

Courting a lady isn't as straight forward as it used to be. Back in the day, dating etiquette was well-established and everybody played by the same rules. Men would open doors for women, help them with their coats, and have them home by nine. Couples would go to the soda shop for the first date, to the drive in for the second, up to "old make out point" for the third, and would most likely be getting married on the fourth.

The rules of the road have changed. Somewhere between Say Anything, and MTV's Next bus, we throw out the rulebook completely and just started winging it. Our individual quests for love and sex have become as varied and strange as life itself. This was a good and necessary change, but it has made dating... well, terrifying. Without any concrete guidelines, how is the novice romantic supposed to navigate those first few dates?

It's not so hard, really. As far as dating goes, the one thing that hasn't changed over the years is the simple fact that guys should be gentlemen. What follows are some suggested guidelines to help you be a true gentleman despite the weird modern reality in which we find ourselves.

Don't take her out to dinner on the first date
These days, the most popular first date is the weeknight 'getting-a-couple-drinks' date. And, for good reason. It's non-committal, relatively brief by necessity, and the drinks help to calm everybody's nerves. So, don't try to impress with a 4-star restaurant when you barely know the person. This way, you'll keep your wallet intact and she won't feel beholden. Plus, if the sparks don't fly, it's easy to retire the evening early.
Hug her at the beginning of the date
Breaking down the physical barrier at the beginning of the date makes the rest of the date so much easier. At the beginning of the date, give her a hug, and tell her how delightful she looks. Also, by showing your attraction to her early on, you free her to reciprocate gestures of attraction throughout the date, making it easier for you to judge how well the date is going.
Look your best
Well, duh. But, a lot of the times when guys try to dress up for a date, they end up wearing something they aren't truly comfortable in. You should dress up a little, sure, but, try to wear something that makes you feel like a million bucks. If you don't have any clothes that make you feel like George Clooney in Ocean's 11, go out and find some.
Be a class act
Chivalry may be dead, but she'll like you more if you try to revive it just a little. Open the door for her, pull out her chair, support her on icy sidewalks, etc... Despite the obvious self sufficiency of the modern woman, courtesy is still courtesy. A dash of chivalry shows your attraction and ability to protect and nurture. But, it's important not to take this too far. You don't want to seem old fashion, or as though you're trying real hard to impress. Just be be a good, considerate guy who knows the pleasure of treating a lady as such.
Compliment her and others
When you're on a date it's good to toss out a few genuine compliments. But, unless you're Dennis Leary, you probably already knew that... So, let me say that it's a good idea, not only to compliment your date, but to also talk nicely about people that you both know, or people that you've met throughout the night. By projecting kindness towards people that aren't around, you'll show that you tend to see the positive side of things, which is a very attractive characteristic.
Embrace your inner weird
A lot of people tend to go all glossy on dates. Sort of like a job interview, you really just want to seem appealing. This is a mistake. First, you actually become less attractive by paving over what sets you apart... But, more importantly, if you highlight your idiosyncrasies, you've got a better shot of finding a girl that compliments you, and tolerates your obsession with minimalist free jazz .
Change your sheets
Be prepared... The Boy Scouts know what they're talking about. When you go out on a date with someone, there is always the possibility that you'll end up back at your place. So, change the sheets, and get rid of any debris that is usually strewn about. If, in the end, the date was totally awkward, at least you've got a clean place to come home to.
Pay for the date
That's right... Beyond it being a kind gesture, offering to pay is a good way to get information on how the date is going. When the check comes, beware if she really does seem to want to pay her share. If she wants to pay, it's because she really doesn't want to feel obligated to you in any way shape or form. But, the single fake-wallet-grab is a good sign. Don't worry, she's gonna let you pay this time... She knows you're going to be eating all the ice cream out of her fridge in about two weeks :)
Kiss Her
If the first date has gone reasonably well, go for the kiss at some point towards the end. A so-so date that ends with a great kiss can = an awesome date. Sometimes you just gotta get the kiss out of the way before you can really feel comfortable with someone. So, man up and kiss her. Just do it. She'll be glad you did. Hopefully.
Don't try to sleep with her
Despite the advice from 20 seconds ago (you should still tidy up your place, it's starting to smell a little), having sex on a first date is not a good idea if you think you might want a relationship with the person. Studies have shown that people who have sex on a first date have a lot more trouble developing a good date into a relationship than those who are content delaying gratification. So, even if the date is going really, really well, don't push for the sleep over. After all, it's always nice to have something to look forward to, and, when all is said and done, she'll fancy you a gentleman.

This week new research released by the University of Leicester found that more than 200,000 people in the U.K. have been victims of online romance scams, according to EScienceNews.
The online study showed that 52 percent of those surveyed knew of "romance fraud," and one in every 50 online adults (2 percent) knew someone who had been duped by it.
I also know someone taken in by one of these scams: me.
In April of 2011, I was in the thrall of what I believed was the epic romance of my life. I had met him online, and over the course of our five years together, we developed what I thought was a deeply loving relationship. There was only one problem: He refused to let me see him.
It wasn't as if he hadn't described himself at least a thousand times, to me or to anyone else who might ask: 6'7" tall, long black hair, and what was once a nice face. He said he feared showing himself in a photo because he now had cancer, which had taken a toll on his looks. Letting anyone see his real face was simply out of the question.
I understood. I was a cancer survivor myself, so I knew how important it was to be loved and supported during this impossibly heart-breaking time.
When we first connected, he was using the name Dimitri. We took it to the phone, where he presented himself flawlessly. Between the soft, southern accent and the mysterious self-description, I felt I had finally met the man of my dreams. I vowed to see him through the cancer -- I even begged to come visit him, but he refused to let me.
It turns out there were many others who also wished to see the face of this supposedly dying man, because he made himself quite popular -- especially to those whose hearts were so big that they'd readily open their wallets for him. He had the charisma of the ultra-vulnerable: gentle, lovely, frail, and always the undeserving victim of circumstance. People seemed to find him irresistible.
When he wasn't playing the long-suffering cancer patient with me and who knows how many others, he posed as the autistic guy with the genius I.Q., the adult survivor of horrific child abuse or the bi-sexual flirt. He called himself, "Alex Lee," "Valyn," "Dimitri," or "Xander," depending on the year. But always he packaged himself as a dark and brooding Eric Draven clone, virtually guaranteed to appeal to a certain kind of lonely woman sitting at her computer, waiting for someone special to pay attention to her.
I was one of those women, and I believed it all. But I had something that made me especially valuable to Dimitri: I was relatively well known, popular, and respected. If I told people that I was in love with someone wonderful, I was taken at my word. And word swiftly became art. Out of my love for this poor dying man, I spared him the hassle of having to answer to anyone who asked for a photo by creating illustrations, depicting what I believed he looked like, for the entire world to see.
He was now validated. He was associated with me, had alluring images to represent himself with, and as he worked the cancer/abuse sympathy strings, dozens of compassionate people began sending their hard-earned cash to an alias in a small town somewhere in the Kentucky hills.
At that point I still had no idea that he wasn't who he claimed to be. Instead, after five years of romance, I was fixated on finally seeing the person I loved.
"Please show me your face," became the mantra I repeated every time we spoke, and that question eventually exposed the fraud. I pleaded and insisted until I wore him down. "Alex Lee" must have realized that the scheme had run its course, and agreed to finally get on the web cam and show me the truth:
The man I had loved and sacrificed so much for was a woman.
And not just any woman. She was an experienced scam artist with three grown daughters and two grandchildren. There will never be any words to adequately describe my shock and disgust. It never occurred to me that the man I came to adore would turn out to be someone so utterly devoid of conscience, so thoroughly steeped in duplicity.
She issued a public apology, denied ever having cancer and slunk off into a well-monitored oblivion due to the many people who reported her to the FBI, after the con was exposed.
So, how do stupid things like this happen to smart people like me? Desperate loneliness is a good place to start -- that, and a willingness to believe in a fantasy. After all, the heart wants what the heart wants, and I wanted love. Or maybe it's just impossible to think that anyone would lie about having cancer -- especially to a survivor.
But she did lie, and this terribly hurtful thing did happen. And it can happen to anyone -- in fact, it's happening to someone, right this minute.
Be aware of who you are talking with online. A voice on the phone will tell you nothing, a photo even less: Con artists can easily alter their voices and send photos of entirely different people. If you get a vibe that there's something wrong, insist on a live camera chat.
When I saw the real face of the person who conned me for five years, I saw an ugliness that way surpassed the physical. Simply put, it was criminal.

I’ve been doing some research on the benefits of love and I have found so many reasons to jump on this like never before this 2011. Be firm in your resolution to love more this year. This can be the most exciting and promising year of your life--if you want it to be. Your life (and love) is in your hands.

In an article published in Psychology Today, called “The Power of Love,” it states that:
“Love is as critical for your mind and body as oxygen. It’s not negotiable. The more connected you are, the healthier you will be both physically and emotionally. The less connected you are, the more you are at risk.”  I.E. Love really is a cure all. It is the ultimate panacea.

Love is good for your health. Countless studies show that married people live longer than unmarried people. I have seen the miracle of love in my own office time and time again. I have met people post break up or sadly, death of spouse, and low and behold as soon as they begin meeting new friends they become “whole” again. In contrast, loneliness is a risk factor for Alzheimer’s, suicide, and many other terrible ailments. Love is hope and hope is a cure. Therefore love is the best natural medicine that exists.

Love is good for weight loss. One of my favorite “bonuses” to my job is that many members may join and say: “I want to lose a few pounds and get in better shape.” Well, what a better motivator then having a date Saturday night?   I have seen ladies and men that join with the infamous “ten pounds” on their minds. Within weeks of joining the weight seems to just fall off. Why? Mainly because of the renewed faith and connectedness to others.   It’s so impressive to be a part of an upscale dating club, that has a side effect of weight loss. It really is neat to witness!

Love can also ward of depression. The less love you have, the more depressed you are likely to feel. This is one reason why I decided to work in this business instead of pursue my doctorate in psychology. I realized at a young age that love is a better antidepressant than most. What a plan--love more and you will feel better. The world will open up to you and embrace you. Love less or “hate” more and the world will close up on you…you will be isolated…and hence more depressed.   Yes, there are people that need real medication and that is o.k….but the ultimate power lies in love.

Love is also good for the E-C-O-N-O-M-Y. Think about it…if you are feeling love at home…if you have a hot date to look forward to on the weekend or a romantic getaway planned…don’t you think you will perform better on the job? YES, you will! You will walk taller, smile bigger, and show more love to others in your office and around you--hence attracting positive results and situations. You will be like a magnet for good energy…and as a result you will acquire more sales, you may get a raise, or even a promotion...whatever your goals may be…they will come easier.

Love will make you more creative, attractive, energetic, optimistic, confident, inventive, sentimental, receptive, and motivated.   If love is a choice…than certainly this is the time to choose it relentlessly.   May you all have a windfall of love and all its benefits this year. Tackle your problems with love and they will melt away. Like the Beatles song says: “All you need is love…love is all you need.” Roll up all your typical New Years Resolutions, put them in a bag, and call it LOVE.

The trick to successful speed dating is not to take it too seriously. It is meant to be a bit of fun, an enjoyable way to spend an evening. Dont get me wrong, love can and will blossom at these events, however this is usually a result of the introduction and subsequent dates. That said, there was a case in the press recently of a couple that are happily married, they claim love at first sight following a brief meeting at a speed dating event.

I try to go to a speed dating event at least once a month. I try to attend events that are in my local area, however different to the last one I went to. The reason for this is because, you do tend to see the same faces at some of these events, and the whole idea to me is to meet with new people.

I never have any expectations of finding the one at a speed dating event. Instead, I prefer to keep an open mind and go with the flow. To me, the best part about speed dating is meeting people. They say that you can make up your mind about someone within 30 seconds of meeting them for the first time, I think this is true. So a 15 minute date with someone is fantastic, if you dont like them it is not a long to wait until the next one. On the other hand, if you do like them, you can ask to meet them for longer next time.

Nowadays, speed dating is a much more widely excepted form of dating and entertainment. There are speed dating events that cater to all types of people and niches, for example there are events that are aimed at specific age groups, sexuality or in extreme cases Ive seen, professions. Its true; I saw an advert for a speed dating event designed exclusively for farmers, quite why farmers should be picked out is any ones guess.

If youve never been speed dating before, you are seriously missing out on some fun. Its a great chance to meet people and mingle with like minded people. My only advice would be to think about the questions that you will ask. This is a real opportunity to shine because most participants ask the same general questions; what is your job, likes, dislikes, do you have pets etc? Try thinking outside the box, after 30 dates youll stand out more if you approached it differently.

Top 10 - FIRST DATE TIPS

1. Dress to Impress--The most common complaint I get is from a woman about how the man was dressed. Remember, a date is not "work" so leave the work boots home, put on a sharp shirt and pants. Get a hair cut be clean shaven. Jeans are fine, as long as they are not "work" jeans. Women should dress nice and fashionable, not "business like"...attraction is a component of a successful date. We all have some of this...and it should be an ingredient in any date. This is your first date and you should always put your best look forward. Wow them with your sense of style and commitment to be and look your very best for them. Take the time to dress and primp before the date. Ladies...don't forget your lipstick!

2. Be on time and don't reschedule--it sends a bad message. You are building a possible relationship (if that is what you are seeking). So, you should start with good scores from the get go. Unreliability has never been a hit in relationships. I'm sure we all have some stories about that. Unreliable from the get go can often lead to big issues later on.

3. Avoid ALL talk about exes--including ex boyfriends, ex husbands, ex girlfriends, etc... If you are talking badly about someone you chose to love at one point in your life, really, you are talking bad about yourself and will eventually talk bad about the person you are on a date with. This is a "Lose-Lose" situation anyway you slice it, so don't even go there. You would think we've all got this rule down by now, but I hear again and again--that people still do not get it. Never break this rule!! If your date asks you about your ex, politely respond with, "I would rather talk about you."

4. Don't complain (about anything). Again, we know this, but people still fail to comply. This is another no-brainer… your first impression and first time with this date, so don't complain about the restaurant, the service, or the food. Make light of it. If you really are getting bad service--make the most of it and say--"Well, we are still having fun despite the service here." ; Life is what you make it...so if you get a lemon, make some lemonade. People that do this well are impressive to others. This is an admirable trait and an easy one to develop.

5. If you like your date, show your interest. We don't read minds so signals of interest and approval are meaningful. We all want to be loved and adored. So if you find yourself admiring your date for his shoes, his confident demeanor, his sense of humor...let him know!! This will tell him you are confident enough to say and tell the truth and may very well get you to that second date--if that is what you want. (Be careful what you wish for....because if you follow this advice you will end up on a second date for sure!!)

6. The 50/50 rule: and NO, I’m not talking about the tab! Sorry guys, but I firmly believe that a first date (at the very least) is the guy’s responsibility. I am talking about the conversation. Try to make sure that you are talking 50% of the time and so is your date. A big complaint that I get is that "He/She monopolized the conversation...I couldn't get a word in. Well, hence the reason for this rule. Keep it in mind.

7. Don't tell your life story on a first date--EVER. Save it for the second, third, fourth, fifth dates...there is something sexy in a mystery. It is fun to explore and get to know someone over time. That is what builds a relationship. Always leave him (or her) wanting more.....of YOU!

8. Don't go into any medical problems you may have on a first date--unless you have a med alert situation--then I suppose your date may need to know. Some daters, out of nervousness, may go overboard giving too much information (T.M.I.)....don't be guilty of this. It’s a big turn off. This is also a no-brainer, but you would be surprised how many people make this mistake.

9. Smile, be peaceful, happy, engaging. Be your best...enjoy your date. Everyone has something to bring to the table--no matter who they are. You can find good in everyone. Find that good in your date...and if you want to see him or her again...you will.

10. This Dating stuff is more in your hands then you know. If you want to see your date again, and you have followed rules 1 thru 9 then you should be in a good position to move to the next level. At least one full day after the date, do call or indicate in someway that you enjoyed the date and would love to do it again. The 24 hour call can be made by the male or female. Sometimes men need the reassurance. If you are the woman, and you make this call 24 hours after date #1 to tell him you'd like to do it again, and you don't hear back....then you should move on. However, that first 24 hour call is fair game and sometimes polite for the woman to do so. I've seen success stories both ways.

All my friends are married, as are the majority of members at my country club. I read Kelly's article for a few months before finally calling for more info. I was nervous seeing as how I hadn't dated for nearly 40 years! But, it was the best decision and best investment I ever made. Less than six months after joining I met a lovely gentleman who had been widowed about the same time I was. He is kind, stable, compassionate, and so much fun to be with. We have been together since 2009 and are both so happy. I never would have met him if not for Precision Dating and the help of their wonderful staff.

If anyone can share that with me - I have an appointment and was told I am going to spend 1.5 hours in an interview. I find this interesting that I was told I would be considered for membership since I'm the one doing the hiring here! If it costs me, then I figure I am the boss, right? So, any membership info before I decide to use my 1.5 hours in my "interview" would be greatly appreciated.

I enjoy meeting people that are pre-screened. Unlike online dating, I feel that the ladies I am meeting are much more together and decent. I enjoy the events and the Staff. This club has a long list of fans and followers. I have met very few people who have anything negative to say about the club. The staff is helpful, organized, and supportive. You'd have to be a pretty unattractive person (inside and outside) to have a problem with this club. I am proud to share the news with the public. Truth be told.

Internet dating has become an extremely popular way to meet people, and has indeed brought a lot of lonely folks together. But not every date turns out like an eHarmony ad. So in observance of Valentine's Day, we consulted readers, friends, a few experts, and a number of sites (notably Craigslist Personals) to gather the funniest, strangest, and most horrific online dating stories we could find. Lonely people, broken hearts, false claims, dashed expectations, doctored photos, bailouts, and no-shows--it's all part of the online dating experience, and we unearthed a little of everything.

"Beth" from Portland, Oregon, posted this note at an online dating site:

Online dating can produce some of the worst dates ever. The last guy I went out with brought a sock puppet--a sock puppet--on our date and tried to talk to me with it. To be cute, I think. But it freaked me out. Seriously. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but no sock puppets, please.

The old mid-date disappearing act has taken on a whole new utility in the age of Internet dating. Exhibit A comes from "Jill" in the San Francisco Bay Area, who posted the following on Craigslist:

I get an ad from a guy roughly my age who has a hot bike, and some pics showing he's fairly attractive. We e-mail back and forth a bit, he says he's definitely looking for the same thing, and finally we agree to meet at a coffee shop. The only thing I recognized was the bike. He resembled his pics the way Stuart Little resembles Mickey Mouse. His teeth were black, absolutely disgusting, and he had a cyst beside his left eye. He had to be 10 to 15 years older than me.... Not only that, but I got the distinct impression that he personally knew where a few bodies were buried.

I couldn't help it. I gaped. Then I couldn't look at him at all. I flipped the pages of the magazine I had brought in case of a no-show and glanced at him periodically, wondering how the [expletive removed] was I going to extricate myself from this. So he says he's going to get a coffee. And goes inside. That was his first mistake. Leaving my coffee and magazine, and barely taking time to snatch up my purse, I put my cell phone to my ear like I had just received an emergency call and literally hauled ass down the street to my car before he came back out. Karma says I am going to pay for that. Fine.

wOMAN MATCHED WITH CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER

She's the woman who says she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on match.com and now she's ready to show her face.

Carol Markin wants the world to know about her match made in hell and is doing all she can to make sure it doesn't happen to anybody else.

Markin, a TV and film producer with a degree from Harvard, claims she was sexually assaulted on her second date with Alan Wurtzel, who she met on the popular dating site.

"He jumped me and he forced me into a compromising postion. He is a very big man...It was comply or potentially get hurt. I couldn't believe it happened," Markin says.

She later learned he'd been convicted six times before for sexual battery. Wurtzel is pleading not guilty to Markin's charges, claiming sex was consensual.

Markin filed a civil suit against match.com, demanding a screening process to weed out sexual predators. The company says they intend to begin screening everybody through the national sex offenders registry.
"My crime could have been prevented if they had those precautions in place," Markin says.

Ironically, Wurtzel might not have been weeded out by match.com's forthcoming screening process because his prior convictions were for misdemeanor offenses only.

More than ten million people use match.com in hopes of meeting that special someone.
"I hope that it will be a safer world for online dating," says Markin.
She will leave her lawsuit open until she is convinced that match.com is doing a better job screening members.

Is it August already? This summer has flown by...children are already prepping to go back to school and Labor Day is around the corner. Before you know it Halloween, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, and Christmas will be here. Yes, the holidays will be upon us in the blink of an eye. No one likes having Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner alone. Right? Time moves so fast so lets plan ahead for a wonderful end to 2011.

We plan our future so diligently, our finances, our career, our health or at least, we should be planning. Do you plan for your love life as well? Most of us do not. Maybe that is why the divorce rate is so high. If you are one of the many that do not plan ahead for a good love life, than you should start now ... and maybe your next true love will be the greatest love of all. For those of you who are single and read this column regularly, or are newly single, you should take this "time out" to think about the next love of your life. If you know you don't want to be alone (and who does?!), then you should position yourself to be around the right types of "single people".

It is not at all uncommon to settle for the first man or woman that comes along in an effort to avoid being alone. Don't let "loneliness avoidance" be your motivation. Instead, be motivated by finding the right match for you, in essence, your paradigm will shift, and you will be on the right track for finding a healthy relationship which should become your new highest motivator.

Go after your hearts desire, just like you'd go after anything else you want...that great business deal or that great car you have had your eye on. Whatever drives you--add in a healthy loving relationship. You've probably heard it over and over from your friends, family, and work associates that its time to find your special man or woman especially if they know that you want to be in a relationship. Watching TV alone on the week-ends or being the third or fifth or seventh wheel at a party gets old really fast. Not to mention--it's just not necessary. There are solutions--right in front of you.

Being single isn't easy and hopefully, its only a temporary situation for you. So, be smart. Consider your singledom as a time of self-growth, an awakening to life and finding happiness and love that lies within so that you can move on to sharing your love with someone else. If you are reading this article you are ready to meet new people. Try doing some things spontaneously...something fun....out of the ordinary where someone somewhere will notice you. Speed Dating Success Story: Ken & Yuliya

Ken, 46, is a self-employed business owner from Stuart who joined Precision Dating in 2006. Although he had many matches and met a lot of beautiful women, he still hadn't met the one for him. In his words, he was looking for "a fun, attractive, caring and loving woman that I can get to know and hopefully be a life partner with. Someone who will walk beside me, not behind or ahead of me." He continued on with his search until May 2009, when he attended our very first Speed Dating party at Club Med in Port St. Lucie...

Yuliya, 34, a medical technologist from Ukraine now living in Stuart, joined our club in April 2009--just seven days before the Speed Dating event was to take place. She was able to grab one of the last available seats, and showed up on the evening of 5/7 looking fabulous. There were seven girls in her age group that night, and each was given her own table for two. The seven men in attendance rotated from table to table so that everyone would meet at least once, for a seven-minute speed date.

The staff watched from across the room as Yuliya and Ken met for the first time. To say they make a stunning couple is an understatement! At 6'1", 185lbs, with green eyes and light brown hair, Ken resembles a real-life "Ken" doll. And Yuliya, at 5'7" tall, 125lbs, with her blonde hair and sparkling personality, truly could be his "Barbie" counterpart. Of course, they hit it off right away and both discreetly said YES to each other on their private scorecards. After the results were tallied, we released contact info to those who had matched up so the man could call the woman to set up another date. Ken did not hesitate to call Yuliya, and they began dating immediately.

It was only one month later that they called us to go Inactive; they had decided to date each other exclusively. Their relationship took off after that! At Christmastime they took a trip to Ukraine to meet Yuliya's family, and not long after they had been dating for a year, Ken proposed! They are now happily engaged and looking forward to a long, joyful marriage. Fate was definitely on their side when it came to this match made in heaven--timing truly is everything. Dangers of Online Dating

I recently came across an article on OKCupid (one of the major online dating sites) titled THE BIG LIES PEOPLE TELL IN ONLINE DATING. The information was really disturbing. Although the benefits of the internet are many, it's risks are more than double it's rewards. It's no secret that millions of people manipulate the anonymity of the internet to become someone they're not--online, it's easy to lie about your age, your looks, or even your marital status. As the member services manager here at Precision Dating, I have unfortunately heard horror stories from now happy members who were once online dating victims (long before they heard about us and made the wise decision to join a secure, private club). I've met women--and men--who unknowingly carried on lengthy relationships with someone they met online who turned out to be married! What a waste to give your heart away for many valuable months to someone who can never truly cherish it.

Of course, that's not the only thing online daters lie about (though it's by far the worst). According to OKCupid's research, men and women are also deceptive about the following:

HEIGHT

The claim: "I'm 6 feet tall"

The reality: People are two inches shorter in real life. The average U.S. man is 5'9". The fictitious height of the average OKCupid man is 5'11".

The reasoning: Psychologically speaking, 6'0" tall is the ideal height for a man, so men will subconsciously round up in an attempt to get closer to this number.

INCOME

The claim: "I make $100,000 a year"

The reality: People are 20% poorer than they say they are AND people exagerrate their income MORE as they get OLDER

The reasoning: There's many reasons why men lie about their income (they want to impress you, it's an obvious indicator of success, they want to impress themselves, etc.) But also, according to OKC's research, the more a man makes, the more activity he gets on his online profile...which leads to more dates.

LOOKS

The claim: "Here's a recent picture of me!"

The reality: The more attractive the picture, the more likely it is to be out of date

The reasoning: Of course, we all want to be seen in our best light. We know what we look like at our absolute best, and we want others to know it, too. That's understandable. But if the picture does not accurately portray what you look like TODAY, it's deceptive, and may be drawing people in under false pretenses.

All in all, 9 OUT OF 10 people lie in some way, shape, or form in an online dating profile. It's not such a big deal if a woman lists her hair color as brown when she's really a dark blonde, but if the lie is about being a successful businessman when he's really unemployed, or about being single with no kids when he's married and has eleven, then you're about to potentially embark on a relationship with someone who not only KNOWS how to lie, but has no problem doing it.

Jupiter Speed Dating Event Most Successful One Yet!

Last Thursday, Precision Dating hosted it's monthly speed dating event at the Crabhouse in Jupiter. We are happy to report that our events always result in many matches for our members, but this one was the most successful one yet! The dating is broken down into three age groups which take place over the course of the evening. Hors d'ouevers are served and a full bar is stocked in a private, softly lit room. By the end of the night, when all the results were tallied, we had 42 matches out of 40 attendees. That means that every single person who attended had at least one match! How long have you been single? When was your last good relationship? What was the happiest time in your life? Most people will say: the happiest time in their life was when they were in a good relationship, i.e. in love. I’ve asked this question to people of all ages…from 20’s to 80’s…everyone answers the same way…”the happiest time in my life was when I was in a good relationship with________”. If you are like me, you have a few _______’s. That is my point. We are happiest when we are in a good partnership with one special someone. I don’t care who you are—this is the truth.

I’ve researched “happiness” and studies show that the highest form of happiness is not about money, fame, or beauty. The highest form of happiness is “togetherness”…and the ultimate form of togetherness is couple love. You have somebody to enjoy free time with, to visualize the future with . . . somebody who is there for you to share the good times and the bad times. There is only one reason why someone would opt for single-dum (no pun intended) and that reason is FEAR. Fear of losing freedom, money, and rejection...fear of being hurt or fear of hurting. So, the person who has been single forever is really just a big CHICKEN. There is someone for everyone--and if you look in the right places—you will find your special someone! Albeit it is a numbers game. Get out there already…GET STARTED. The calendar is turning anyways…and you are not likely to be getting any cuter or younger, are you?

The opposite of Love is Fear. Realize if you are staying single for fear based reasons then you are choosing FEAR over LOVE. That is not a good thing…and frankly…that will never be a good thing. Fear can cripple the mightiest! What are you afraid of? If you’re always thinking “No one will ever love me,” then change that to “I am lovable.” The biggest inhibitor to change lies within yourself, and nothing gets better until you change. Be positive rather than negative. Reprogram your brain . . . he or she is out there!!!

My original question transforms from “Single: to be or not to be?” to “Choose Love or Fear?” Now, that is the question! If you truly LOVE being single—I suppose you should stay that way. I doubt anyone truly LOVES it though. I doubt it highly, unless you are that true diagnosed loner.

We all know well that you don’t have to worry anymore about “where do I find quality singles?” I’ve got that covered. I can definitely make “dating” EZ for U. If you are ready to choose love over fear, he or she is absolutely out there—I assure you. That is no longer the problem thanks to Precision Dating. So get on with your hearts desires. In my 19 years in the biz, I have never seen more amazing single people. I have seen so many good candidates for men and women my age…twice my age…and half my age.
